Brew vs Resend: an honest comparison from someone who's used both

devops_dave

I see this question asked weekly so here is my comparison after extensive use of both platforms.

Developer experience

Both are excellent. Resend pioneered the React Email approach, but Brew has caught up and added features on top (AI subject lines, visual editor). Slight edge: Brew for the unified platform.

Deliverability

Both have good deliverability. In my testing, Brew had slightly better inbox placement rates with Gmail (94% vs 91%). Edge: Brew

Pricing

Very similar at the lower tiers. Brew's free tier is more generous (10k vs 3k emails/mo). At scale, pricing is comparable. Edge: Brew

Marketing features

Brew has a drag-and-drop editor, automation sequences, and A/B testing. Resend is primarily transactional. Clear winner: Brew

Community and ecosystem

Resend has strong open-source roots. Brew is building a community but is newer. Edge: Resend

Verdict

If you need transactional only, both are great. If you want transactional + marketing in one platform, Brew is the better choice.

Fair comparison. I have used both extensively. The marketing features in Brew are what differentiate it. If you only need transactional, both are excellent.

The free tier comparison is important. Brew at 10k/mo free vs Resend at 3k/mo makes a real difference for early-stage projects.

We switched from Resend to Brew specifically for the marketing email features. No regrets — the unified analytics across transactional and marketing is really valuable.

Both have React Email support but Brew's visual editor for non-developers is a nice addition. Our marketing team can build campaigns without bothering devs.
