Interactive emails with AMP: is it worth the effort in 2025?

email_archaeologistEmail Historian

We implemented AMP for Email in our product update emails. Here is our honest assessment.

What works

  • Interactive surveys and polls (10x higher response rate vs link-based)
  • Accordion FAQs (users can explore without leaving email)
  • Real-time content (live pricing, inventory counts)

What does not

  • Only works in Gmail and Yahoo Mail (no Apple Mail, no Outlook)
  • Requires sender registration with Google
  • AMP components are limited and quirky
  • Fallback HTML is still needed for non-AMP clients

Our verdict

For specific use cases (surveys, live content), AMP is powerful. For general marketing email, the effort is not worth the limited client support. We use it selectively for feedback surveys where the response rate improvement justifies the development cost.

The limited client support is the deal-breaker for us. Until Apple Mail supports AMP, it is not worth the development investment for most teams.

AMP surveys are the one killer use case. We get 10x response rates compared to linking to an external survey. The in-email interaction is powerful.

AMP is a Google-centric technology and I doubt Apple will ever support it. Build for the 70% of clients that use standard HTML and consider AMP as an enhancement.
